Update from Lytle City Council meeting of August 23, 2021
The City Council approved a noise variance to St. Andrew’s Catholic Church for its Church Festival scheduled for October 10.
The Lytle VFW Post #12041 requested that they be allowed to postpone the September 11 Festival. They cited the reason for their request as the current problems associated with total American troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. They will still have a memorial ceremony at the VFW Memorial on Main Street on the morning of September 11. They hope to do the Festival at a later date this year. The Council approved their request and will hold the money previously approved to help the event in reserve.
City Council approved doubling its cyber liability insurance coverage. The cost to double coverage is less than $50 a year.
City Council approved new impact fees for water and sewage connections on new constructions. The increased fees will help offset the cost to the city of connecting new constructions. The Council also discussed the possibility of adding an impact fee for roads, as new development increases in the city.
The Council approved a proposal from Brown Electrical Services for electric service at the new City Well #4.
They Council authorized the City Engineer to advertise for bids for City Well #4’s final phase.
The Council appointed Philip Devaney to the City of Lytle Beautification Committee. They also appointed me as the City Council Liaison to the Beautification Committee. There will be a city cleanup day on October 16.
The Council approved the adoption of a policy for use of rubber signature stamps in the city government.
At our next meeting, on September 13, we will finalize a list of streets to be resurfaced in the coming months. I’ll list the streets as soon as we vote on the list.
The wood and cable bollards on N. Somerset St will be replaced next week. These are the ones across the street from the N. Somerset St entry to John Lott Park.
The Council also hear Department reports from Animal Control, Library, Code Compliance, Public Works, Police Chief, Finance Director, and City Secretary.
