Firearms and Weapons Training
Cpl. Gamez
Currently, in-house training is led by Sergeant Mark Montgomery who has extensive instructor training in the field of firearms. He is an NRA Law Enforcement firearms instructor and TASER instructor for our agency.

Our officers qualify twice annually with their hand guns, patrol rifles, and shotguns. Sgt. Montgomery coordinates the firearm and TASER qualifications and re-qualification.

In February 2009 Lt. Matt Dear completed a TASER instructor course.  We certify not only our own staff but offer the training to area agencies.

Peace Officers in Texas are regulated by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. The state mandates that each officer receive a minimum of 40 hours of training during each 2 year cycle. Members of the Lytle Police Department routinely receive training far in excess of the state mandated minimum. Our citizen's deserve a staff that is trained above the "minimum" standards. Financial support from the city allows our staff to attend advanced law enforcement training. In turn we can provide a higher level of service to our citizens.

We accomplish this by:
  • Attending training classes and seminars ranging from the local academies in San Antonio to locations all across the state. (Common destinations include Austin, Houston, Longview, Kilgore, and Laredo.)
  • Attending classes hosted by area agencies
  • In-house training conducted by our own staff
  • Hosting training at our facility (Bringing in outside instructors and classes)
